Do I need a detox or cleanse protocol?

What the experts say

Timothy CaulfieldProfessor of health law and science policy, University of Alberta; Canada Research Chair 2002 to 2023

No, and the vocabulary is the tell

What it rests onThe clearance organs are already installed and are not in dispute; he reports searching for evidence that cleanse protocols add anything and finding none. He adds a vocabulary heuristic: a health provider using the words detox or cleanse is 'a pretty clear red flag that bunk is coming.'

Yes, in stages, and conventional clearance is not enough

What it rests onA mechanistic model of cellular toxin retention, taught through his own programme, with phases running one to two months, then three to four months, then a brain phase.

Overview

Caulfield is addressing a general adult buying a cleanse off a shelf or from a wellness brand. Pompa is addressing people who believe they have a symptomatic heavy-metal burden, frequently after dental amalgam removal. The populations barely overlap, and the second group is self-identified rather than diagnosed.

Where they agree

Both accept that the body has organs whose function is clearance, and Pompa's own model concedes that those pathways are the route out. The dispute is whether a purchasable protocol is needed to open, assist or complete that route.

What would settle it

A controlled trial measuring body burden of a named metal before and after the protocol against a control group. Neither side has one, and Caulfield's claim is explicitly a claim about the state of the literature in 2015 that would need re-checking rather than requoting.
